Welcome to another edition of The Affiliate Buzz, where affiliate marketers have been coming to be inspired, informed and motivated to succeed since way back in 2003. Last weeks episode CPA and attorney, Andrew B. Gordon joined us to discuss what merchants, affiliates and bloggers need to know about the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) Disclosure Guidelines for 2016, in this episode James is joined by serial entrepreneur, Desmond Soon. Where they discuss what everyone ought to know about outsourcing, plus how to hire a virtual assistant.
Desmond has spent a third of his life in Singapore, a third in Canada and a third in Japan. He was always interested in being an entrepreneur and confesses to James about his first business venture when he was growing up in Vancouver. It’s not something he’s proud of now, but it did start him down the road to becoming a successful entrepreneur and business coach. His experience includes work in both online and brick and mortar businesses and he has worked in both Asia and North America. Desmond's Quote is “turning setbacks into comebacks”. When he’s not coaching, attending speaking engagements or working on his own business, he enjoys spending time with his two boys, thus the term “fatherpreneur”. But the one thing Desmond has never learned is how to hire a virtual assistant.
Do What You Do Best and Outsource the Rest
Desmond approached James to learn about outsourcing. Desmond knows he needs help. He keeps resisting and procrastinating to hire online, and confesses that the main obstacle for him has been fear of the unknown, and not knowing when a good time is to hire a virtual assistant.
How to hire a virtual assistant
James, on the other hand, is big believer in outsourcing. He recently wrote a book Outsourcing Essentials for Podcasters - The Secrets to Hiring Talent on a Beach Hut Budget. James recommends that podcasters and online business owners follow his 15 minute rule- if you can’t do it yourself in 15 minutes, then spend the next 15 minutes creating a job post so you can hire someone to do it.
James tells Desmond what platforms are the best and what they offer. Desmond also learns exactly how to go about creating a job post, how the payment system works and how inexpensive it can be to hire your virtual dream team.
Listen now to hear about:
- Why people resist outsourcing
- How to Hire a Virtual Assistant
- Which platforms to use
- The difference between BaseCamp, Upwork and Fiverr
- Deciding who to hire as a VA
- Why and how to track and report outsourcing expenses
- How much you should expect to pay
After getting a feel for how outsourcing works, Desmond hones in on the big question. Does he need a Virtual Assistant? What can a VA do? How much does one cost? and why every entrepreneur needs a VA (and perhaps every person needs a VA). James discusses how the talented VAs he’s hired become the backbone of his business, managing his projects, his team members and even him, he tells Desmond what three things he (and you) can do to get started right away.
