In this edition of the Affiliate Buzz audio newsletter, James Martell, successful publisher, speaker and author talks with host Charles Johnston about the New Years dinner back in 1999 when James made the decision to make money online, whatever it took. They discuss the beginning of the Internet, growth and power of online marketing, and what attracts shoppers online.

James talks with Charles about first starting out in the basement of his home with dial up internet. He shares that he was really nervous when he first started out. He knew nothing about the internet or websites, but jumped in and got his feet wet. The next thing he knew he received his first $5,000 check, confirming that he really could make money online.

James talks with Charles about one of his very early sites, desktop-publishers.com and the ups and downs of that website. He shares that back in 2001 he went through and stuffed keywords just to get ranked and now the site is penalized for it. He tells listeners that it is a good study to look at when working on other sites and what not to do. He further uses this site as an example as to why you should never take a site offline because even today the site draws traffic and revenue.

James discusses with Charles how the power of the SUPER BootCamp has really helped people all over the globe. He has been able to help so many people learn how to be a publisher and earn a living from home. They share that so many things are available now that are free, valuable tools like Google Maps, that can truly enhance the publishing experience.

James and Charles talk about how online shopping has really grown, sharing an article that was focused on Canada’s boxing day, stating that over 1/3 of Canadian shoppers are now shopping online to avoid crowds and make their shopping experience more relaxed. Then they talk about the option to do research online before purchasing products to be sure you purchase the right product. James tells listeners that writing reviews on your own sites is a powerful way to satisfy your visitor.

James and Charles wrap up by discussing the growth online over the past year with our declining economy. They share that different places have different numbers but generally speaking, while they did not see the growth they normally do they did okay and stayed out of the negative. Even in our declining economy the online market continues to grow.
