In this edition of the Affiliate Buzz audio newsletter James Martell, successful publisher, speaker and author talks with his son and manager for one of the largest Canadian computer retailers Justin Martell about the different types of technology you need when running a business online.

Growing up in a family grounded in the online industry Justin had a solid foundation for what it meant to work online. What he desired was to learn more about the hardware side of the computer industry and so began his studies, and his job with the computer retailer.

His hard work paid off as he worked his way to management and increased his knowledge on the hardware that makes the computer, and online industry run. James and Justin talk about the technical issues that everyone faces in the online world and how your offline technology may be impacting those issues.

James looks back to a time when the technology in their home seemed to be giving them more headaches than satisfaction and the inevitable time for an upgrade was at hand. Having his own techie at hand he called on Justin's expertise to diagnose and recommend a solution to the constantly dropped internet connections and lagging stream time.

James learned what many of us still need to, that our online efficiency is really only as good as our offline equipment. From recognizing if your technology can put out the bandwidth to how many devices are competing for time Justin shares tips on making slow technology a thing of your past.

Beyond desktops and laptops the current online industry is rapidly going mobile, bringing the net to your fingertips literally. James and Justin talk about the various smartphones and tablets on the market, what they offer and tips for choosing the best one for your needs.

James, that was a great show and some really great insight from your son. I think that the bottle neck is more prevalent than most people realize. Simply because over time people have acquired more and more network connected devices, without even realizing it.

Last month I was talking with a high school buddy about this exact situation and we figured out that his family of four had at least 11 devices networked together! It wasn't until we sat down and counted them all that we realized the extent of the situation (he too had a cheap router).

    Hello James!

Very nice podcast with Justin! I've always liked hardware and performance! My first computer was an Intel Pentium 133MHz and I was pretty excited back in 1996! I was buying the parts and building PCs by my self till I was bored back in 2002 when I installed my last one.

I understand the problems with routers and bandwidth! It's frustrating when you have already added a new article in wordpress with every detail of on-page optimization and then you hit the publish button and nothing's working!!! It's just because the internet connection light in the router is not green! The thing that makes it more difficult it's to find quickly the stop button in your browser so the page doesn't proceed with the error message! (I have to find a shortcut for that)...

Anyway, thanks for sharing James! It's great to have someone knowing about the technical stuff and you to focus on the marketing strategies!

    Best,
    John

This was a great buzz! So good to hear Justin, and glad he was finally able to "hear" an Affiliate Buzz podcast. He did a great job - I guess he's had good role models!
I thought the information he provided on routers was excellent; and he's right - we do tend to spend as little as we can on that piece of equipment, rather than investing in the dual-band router. I'll be making a change in that area very soon.
Thanks again for another great podcast.
Look forward to hearing more from Justin soon.
