James Martell, the President of Net Guides Publishing Inc., natural search expert, and successful affiliate marketer chats with one of his former pupils, Chris Molnar about taking the leap into affiliate marketing on a full time basis. Chris shares his journey from part-timer to successful entrepreneur, insightful tips he’s learned along the way, and several stumbling blocks he himself has overcome along the way.
Working as a web designer for hire, Chris always had the dream of becoming his own boss in the back of his mind. He was introduced to affiliate marketing through his brother-in-law and soon fell under James’ tutelage, learning the skills he would need and getting a feel for affiliate marketing while still working full time in order to keep a steady income. When his affiliate sites began having some success, he knew that he could make a go of it full time. When he spotted what he perceived to be the perfect opportunity (having sufficient income reserves, liberty to concentrate solely on the transition, and a wealth of valuable experience in the marketing business) he took that first big step and left his full time gig behind.
In roughly two years, Chris has propelled several of his sites to top ten Google search results and last year his Halloween site had a record amount of sales during the month of October. He recently returned from the Affiliate Summit West 2009 in Las Vegas and shares his impressions on the gathering, the business as a whole, and life as his own boss.
